STRETCH GOALS & SPACE PORT SNEAK PEEK!
almost 2 years ago – Tue, Jun 14, 2022 at 09:19:28 PM

STRETCH GOALS CLARIFICATION

When we hit $20k we will add the Carnage Companion book to our Add-On section.  Current and future backers will be able to modify their pledge to add that book.  If we hit $30k we’ll add the Alliance Setting Guide as an add on.

Why make the books paid add-ons?

The long version: This allows us to fund those books without having to set the stretch goal amounts at the full value of their production cost.  Essentially, we’re saying “when we hit 80% of what we need to produce this book, backers can buy it as an Add-On which should push us up to 100% of what we need to make the book.”  This makes it more likely that we’ll be able to produce the book, since the stretch goal target is lower than what it would be if we set it at 100% of the production cost.

The short version: It’s more likely we’ll hit the stretch goal, which makes it more likely you guys get those cool books.

This is all contingent on us hitting 20k for the first book becoming an Add-On. If, in the unlikely event, we hit 20k, list the book as an Add-On, and then for some reason we drop below 20k before the campaign finishes, we will refund the cost of that Add-On book via BackerKit to those that purchased it.  Again, this highly unlikely, but we wanted to be 100% clear.

Here’s the good news. We haven’t set the final price for those books yet, but we’re estimating that the retail price for those books will be about $40-$50 dollars each. We’re going to make them available to backers at around $25-30!  Our Kickstarter backers (and ONLY our Kickstarter backers) will be able to pick them for almost half the retail price!  Get ‘em while they’re hot (and inexpensive)!

WHAT ABOUT THE MAPS?

Lastly, the two map Stretch Goals at $35k and $40k are NOT Add-ons. If we hit those numbers, everybody who has Stretch Goals in their pledge level gets those for free.  Speaking of… here’s a sneak peek at the Space Port map (work in progress).

Sneak Peak: The Phentari
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Jun 09, 2022 at 11:11:48 PM

Which Version of Savage Worlds Is Battlelords compatible with/made using?

We get this question a lot, and I’m not sure why. We used the most current version of Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) available at the time to build the game, and will likely be making minor changes to Savage Battlelords based on the version of SWADE that was released just a few days ago.

Can I use Savage Battlelords with Savage Rifts (and other Savage Worlds settings)?

You sure can! Obviously, one of the advantages of Savage Worlds is the ability to tailor it to model a particular setting. As a result, many Savage Worlds settings can be mixed to some degree. Savage Battlelords is no exception. Due to their innate species abilities, starting Savage Battlelords characters are the equivalent of Seasoned characters from most other settings (including Savage Rifts).

The most unique aspect of Savage Battlelords are the armor and weapons game mechanics and how they interact. Fortunately, the weapon/armor system in Battlelords can be picked up and overlayed on whatever Savage Worlds setting you want to use it in.

What Size will the books be?

Everything in Battlelords is bigger, and that includes the books. The Trim Size of Savage Battlelords books will be 8.5” x 11.”

Game Sneak Peak: Spotlight on the Phentari

Cunning and Machiavellian, the Phentari species are easily recognizable by the four tentacles (two per side) and their impressive mandibles. The eyes of the Phentari are located on the side of their head allowing them to see behind themselves. The arboreal Phentari start the game with Extra Actions and the ability to Overwhelm their opponents in melee combat using their multiple tentacles, which can regenerate if lost. The Phentari, who are often referred to as “Squids,” are the mortal enemies of the Eridani Swordsaints and long-time ally of the mischievous Orion Rogues.

“Our species is so cunning that we had to move our eyes so we can watch our own back.” -An old Phentari adage

The Phentari are the only species known to have a successful Kratocracy as their form of government. Those capable of seizing power through coercion, social persuasion, or deceptive cunning are favored. If they are strong and cunning enough to maintain their status, they deserve it. In fact, Phentari law states that if someone commits a crime, but no one can prove they did it, then it is no longer a crime! Shrewdness is rewarded in Phentari society.

The Phentari's preferred weapons are those that demoralize their enemy. Flamethrowers and chainsaws are popular.

Thanks for your support! Please help us spread the word about the Kickstarter.

Getting closer to our first Stretch Goal

Yesterday was an amazing day for us on the Kickstarter. Hello to all our new backers! We’re about 4.25k away from our first Stretch Goal, the Carnage Companion book. Make sure to spread the word to your friends so we can hit that goal and you guys can get all that glorious military, sci-fi, gear!

Quick Start Rules

Speaking of gear we’ve got a list of the weapons that appear in the Core Rules and the Carnage Companion in our QuickStart rules PDF, along with a list of the Hindrances and Edges that appear in both books. Game Sneak Peak: Spotlight on the Eridani

The Eridani are tall, bipedal, aliens from the frozen, methane, planet of Eridine. This quasi-fuedal and militaristic species is better known by their nickname: The Swordsaints. Eridani live for battle, and they prefer it the old fashion way - up close and personnel with a sword. Eridani start the game with the Environmental Resistance (Cold), the Hard to Kill Edge, the Hardy Edge, and a number of unique Eridani Species abilities. They are an Aggressive species prone to going Berserk in combat despite their strict Code of Honor. Eridani and the sworn enemy of the Phentari species (aka the Squids), whom they waged war against prior to joining the Alliance. Eridani are easily recognized by their mohawk hair style and the melee weapon they are required to have on them at all times.  If you ever see a Swordsaint without a mohawk they've either done something really impressive or really bad. Either way, you should beware.

2-Page Spread from the Eridani Description in the Savage Battlelords Core Rules
“I skillfully blocked the Eridani’s sword with my heart.”

Fully Funded And Our On Way To Stretch Goal #1

We’re headed towards Stretch Goal #1 – The Carnage Companion!  A compendium of additional edges, hindrances, armor, weapons, and military sci-fi equipment every player will want. It also includes four teams of ready-to-play archetype characters with illustrations, and vehicle rules – including Ultra Armor (aka Humpties).  Spread the word about our Kickstarter and help us reach that goal, so the Carnage Companion becomes available as an Add-On, because everyone needs more gear!

Mercs & Pirates (Pre-Made Archetypes Teams in the Carnage Companion)

Life as a Corporate Mercenary

Mercenary campaigns are the probably the default campaign type that most people run in Battlelords. Characters can secure employment with a mega-corp (those guys will hire anybody), take what gear and guts they have, and go out to save the universe. If they survive long enough, they may be able to retire on all those fat credits they made in the process. Everybody wants to be a mercenary and, with the exception of former soldiers, no one is really trained to be one. Remember, the unofficial descriptor for every corporate mercenary. “Over-Equipped and Undertrained.”

Mercenaries, by definition, are paid combatants, and they’ll enter combat with whoever or whatever their  mega-corp employer tells them, or they’ll be shopping for a new job. It’s not uncommon for a merc team to be fighting Arachnids one week, running VIP security the next week, and fighting other mercenaries the week after that.

Need to protect a building from an incursion by corporate espionage agents trying to steal secrets? Hire mercs? Are the Alliance armed forces shorthanded defending planet Gamma Proxima 7 from the Arachnids? They can recruit the local mega-corp security forces. That’s you. Is your transport ship attacked by pirates? Guess who the crew will ask to defend it? The corporate mercs. A team of mercenaries is always useful in the universe of Battlelords, though you will be expected to accomplish the mission regardless of their skill and equipment loadout.
